I've learned to pay more attention to trust issues in other people. Sometimes it's because they've been wronged enough that they lose faith in others, but many times it's because they can't be trusted.

I don't like lying, and struggle to do it convincingly. I still manage not to tell people that I hate their baby's name or that the baby is ugly. 'Oh look at those cheeks!' Has always served me well. The parents take it as a compliment and I've not lied at all since the baby does indeed have cheeks that can be looked at.
