The tendency of the tech industry to re-use certain words ('message', 'class', 'hierarchy') in radically different contexts makes it difficult for us to discuss these concepts with clarity. If we simply invented new words for new concepts, as Isaac Newton did when he invented the word 'gravity', we would have a better vocabulary for discussing the radical innovations brought to us by computers.

I know people are always concerned about whether it would be awkward to tell someone what moments like this mean to them. I never realized how incredibly not awkward it would be hear this sort of stuff until I got older and had a kid. If my kid's friend asked me to braid their hair and then thanked me because of something like this? I would never stop crying. I would also never stop hugging them. Which now that I think about it would probably make it awkward...
